Voice
Merrick School of Music is where young singers and aspiring vocalists go to learn the fundamentals of singing like breathing, diction, and maintaining a legato line. These basic principles are key to strong vocal performances. Our voice teachers help guide beginner and intermidiate singers through the early stages of vocal progression, assisting with pitch training, developing timbre and keeping steady tempo.
Violin/Viola
Violins are well-known and well-loved instruments. From their history in classical music, to their continued popularity today, there’s a reason why so many people learn to play the violin.

Playing an orchestral instrument like the saxophone allows you to get involved in a wide variety of musical groups and events.

The trumpet is a popular instrument in marching bands, concert band, and jazz band, and even as a solo instrument for all kinds of events such as playing the Star Spangled Banner, Taps, etc. Our teachers can help a student develop their technique in order to sound good playing any style of music.

Group Lessons
Group Lessons of Music Theory and Music History take place along with private lessons during the semester and are held once a week.

Music Theory
Music Theory is a practice musicians use to understand and communicate the language of music. Musical theory examines the fundamentals of music. It also provides a system to interpret musical compositions.
For the beginner, music theory is the study and descriptions of music rudiments required to notate and read music, such as key signatures, time signatures, rhythmic notation, pitches (notes), scales, modes, chords, tensions, and elements of composition such as rhythm, harmony, melody, and counterpoint.
Understanding music theory concepts is the key to progressing on your instrument, writing better songs and breaking through creative blocks.
Music History
In music history lessons you will learn about the lives of famous classical composers. You will discover how each of these composers grew up and what motivated them to become composers. You will learn about composers who were child prodigies, won competitions, got into duels, got arrested, died young, and composed great master works of music.
Knowledge of their biographies will have a positive effect on understanding their musical styles and interpreting their compositions.
